3 Morning Smoothies To Jumpstart Your Day

Sitting down to a morning meal may not always be doable. When getting ready is a time crunch, prepping a plate of scrambled eggs or even enjoying a bowl of cold cereal just won’t work. Since it is so important to eat a nutritious breakfast to energize your body and rev up your metabolism, skipping eating altogether is a mistake. By mid-morning, you’ll hit a slump, not to mention the grumbling coming from your empty belly.

A great way to get a good breakfast in your system is to gulp it down. Smoothies are simple, sweet, and satisfying. All you need is a blender and a to-go cup, healthy ingredients, and a couple of minutes to whip your smoothie ‘till it’s rich and frothy.

These three recipes are chock-full of vitamins, minerals, and are well-balanced for breakfast. You will feel full until lunchtime, so you won’t find yourself mindlessly dipping into the candy jar or dropping quarters into the vending machine.

Each recipe below makes one large smoothie.

Choco-nana Chill
Ingredients:
1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
1 large ripe banana
1 cup almond milk
1 tablespoon honey
1 packet all-natural sweetener (like SweetLeaf)
½ cup chopped spinach (WHAT! Don’t worry, you won’t taste it and it won’t turn your smoothie green. All you’ll get is the added goodness).
Blend everything until completely smooth. Drink up the deliciousness. It’s so good, you’ll think it’s dessert.
Vanilla-Berry Blast
Ingredients:
½ cup ripe blueberries
½ cup sliced ripe strawberries
½ cup ripe raspberries
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 packet all-natural sweetener (like SweetLeaf)
1 cup soymilk
½ cup low-fat vanilla yogurt (not Greek-style)
Blend until all ingredients are well-combined and creamy. Berries for breakfast has never been better.

Pumpkin Pick-Me-Up
Ingredients:
¾ cup pumpkin puree (canned)
1 cup soymilk
¼ cup strongly brewed black coffee (chilled); (or use 1 tablespoon instant coffee crystals and add ¼ additional cup of water to the recipe)
1 packet all-natural sweetener (like SweetLeaf)
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 tablespoon honey
Blend all ingredients until silky smooth. Sprinkle a little extra cinnamon on top for a kick.
Enjoy your creations. Sure beats the junk at the drive-thru.
